I remember hiking up behind the H-Bar-G Ranch Hostel in August '93. I came across three horse riders in a meadow in the distance. I was in the trees some 300 yards away. I photographed them and carried on walking. After a few seconds I heard a noise. I turned to see a horse bolting with the rider bouncing along behind in a styrup for a few yards. Not good. I gave the riders my jacket, hat and water then I ran down to find a young couple and a girl from the local stable. The rider had possibly broken her leg or ankle, along with other injuries.

I ran down to the road below, raised the alarm, and was taken back up the hill in a 4×4 pickup fire truck. Other vehicles went with us as well.

I left the riders to the professionals. After a while a helicopter came to take them to medical facilities in Boulder.
